1840 $5 Narrow Mill MS66 NGC.
1840 $5 Narrow Mill MS66 NGC. While one of the few No Motto Half Eagles available in Uncirculated condition, in better Mint State grades the 1840 is a significant coin and well worth the attention of specialists. This impeccably preserved example is extremely lustrous with an attractive yellow-gold color along with touches of orange patina in the protected areas. The strike is sharp and fully brought up save for the lower left star centers which are just a trifle weak. A short hairline blemish angles down from star 3 and a mint made die crack on the reverse runs from the border near 11 o'clock to the left tip of the eagle's shield. An extremely flashy and technically superior Half Eagle that is sure to inspire interest among collectors of top quality early gold. Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer (11/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
