1839<PS$1> Name Omitted, Judd-104 Restrike, Pollock-116, R.3, PR63 PCGS. Silver. Die Alignment III (coin turn, eagle flying level). Restrike 1839 dollars were produced from 1857 to 1859, then again at a later date. These later strikes in Die Alignment III have reverse die cracks similar to the Type II coins. However, these coins were probably struck in the late 1860s (or perhaps slightly later); a time period when the Die Alignment III Judd-60s were being made. In any case, the Die Alignment III 1839 dollars are very scarce and are estimated to have a total mintage of approximately 100 pieces. Probably no more than 25% of 1839 dollars appear in Die Alignment III. Most of these coins are usually found in comparatively high grades, as with this piece. This is an attractive, deeply mirrored coin that shows no contact marks to the unaided eye. The surfaces on each side are deeply toned in royal blue with gray accents in the fields and golden-rose colored margins. An outstanding, high grade Die Alignment III 1839 dollar.
