1839 PS$1 Name Omitted, Judd-104, Pollock-116, R.3, PR63 PCGS. Silver. Die Alignment IV (medallic turn, head of Liberty opposite the F in OF). Mislabeled as a restrike by PCGS, close examination of this coin does not reveal any die cracks that are associated with restrikes. Those coins show hairline-thin cracks through MERI of AMERICA. This piece lacks any trace of cracking, which indicates it was struck during the first striking period in 1839. Only 300 pieces were struck in this year. Most are circulated and rarely are these early pieces encountered in pleasing PR60 or better grades. This is a lovely, high grade example that shows deeply mirrored fields on each side. There is an off-center window of near-brilliance on the obverse and a larger untoned circle in the center of the reverse. Toned deep blue and russet elsewhere with no obvious contact marks on either side.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
