1839-O 50C MS64 NGC. The mintmark is noticeably repunched south and a noticeable die crack runs through the date. Curiously, this is the more frequently encountered of the two known varieties. This coin is predictably popular with collectors because of its obverse mintmark, something that would not be repeated again on half dollars until 1916. This is a sharply defined example that has dusky of golden-gray toning over each side, with satiny underlying mint luster. The reverse is somewhat lighter than the obverse. A number of die cracks (as struck) reside on each side, as usual, but there are only a few marks and lines.
