1839-O $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS. McCloskey-A, R.4. An even finer representative of this historically significant issue, both the obverse and the reverse display appreciably bold definition in the centers. True, the hair curls over Liberty's ear are a little soft, and some of the obverse star centrils are indistinct, but the overall eye appeal benefits greatly from pleasing medium gold color and suitable luster quality for the MS61 level of preservation. Moderately abraded with a few mentionable scrapes in the obverse and upper reverse fields. Although Winter (1992) suggests that a small hoard of Mint State 1839-O Quarter Eagles may have entered the market in recent decades, this issue remains scarce in Uncirculated grades relative to the number of collectors who pursue Southern gold. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
