1839 N-12 R4+ Booby Head, PCGS graded MS64 BrownVery attractive frosty uniform light to medium brown. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal of this cent is very nice. Sharply struck with trivial marks including a fine hairline scratch from just below star 4 to before the end of the nose with an extension from the chin down to the lower part of the neck. Three tiny specks of reddish chocolate toning are located just right of the mouth with another in the field at the top of the hair bun plus a small splash of darker brown toning at the D in UNITED. Otherwise this cent is absolutely choice. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with smooth, slightly reflective fields on both sides and no die cracks. Fine die polishing lines show in the fields on both sides, clearest along the front edge of the portrait. An impressive example of this rare die variety. Called MS62 and finest known by 12 points in the Noyes census, his photo #20638. Bland says MS60 and tied for CC#1. Our grade is MS60.
