<B>1839-D $5 VF20 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 1-A, which is several times rarer than the usual Variety 2-A. But any 1839-D is rare, since only 18,939 pieces were struck. The obverse mintmark and slightly different portrait design further increases the desirability of this issue. The portrait is well worn, but the eagle has impressive plumage detail.
