1839-D $2 1/2 VF35 PCGS. Variety 1-B. One of two varieties that use the same obverse. Variety 1-B is the scarcer of the two, with an estimated 5,500 pieces struck. It is identified by a bold branch stem located entirely to the left of the D in the denomination. Rich apricot-gold patination on this VF35 specimen is imbued with whispers of mint-green. Aside from wear on the highpoints, the design elements display sharp detail. Both sides are quite clean, which is unusual for this issue that is typically abraded, scratched, or in possession of mint-made planchet problems (Douglas Winter, 2003). Housed in a first generation PCGS holder.

Coin Engraver: William Kneass

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
