Quarter Eagles 1839-c About Uncirculated 55. Cleaned. <b>In a Mint State 61 Accugrade holder, and we can see why the coin might be called Mint State since it displays extra sharp hair curls on Liberty plus an eagle that stands well in advance of a more typical 1839-C. In terms of its having been cleaned, this was done in a judicious manner, and so leaves the surfaces attractive. Furthermore the rims are sharp, the rim denticles complete and bold. The mint at Charlotte, North Carolina opened for business in 1838. Quarter Eagles of this style were struck that year and again in 1839. In 1839, the mintage totaled 18,140 pieces. Then, starting in 1840, the mint introduced Gobrecht's remodeled Liberty head.
