<B>1839-C $2 1/2 AU53 NGC.</B></I> Recut 39, Winter 3-C, McCloskey-C, Breen-6150, R.3. This variety was formerly listed as an 1839/8-C overdate in the Guide Book, but the reference now states that "so-called 9 Over 8 varieties for P, C, and D mints are made from defective punches." On the present piece, however, the 3 is undoubtedly repunched.
