1839/6 N-1 R3+ Overdate 9 over 6 PCGS graded VF30
Glossy dark steel brown and olive with lighter brown toning in protected areas on both sides. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are a nick on the throat and a thin planchet fissure below the date (looks like a fine die crack but it is not). MDS with a very light die crack (looks more like a wave in the field) from the dentils through star 4 to the nose. The date is bold and the overdate feature is sharp. Graded F12 by Noyes, his photo #31874. Our grade is F15+, close to VF20. A decent example of this very popular "Redbook" variety. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label.
