1839 25C No Drapery AU55 NGC. Breen-3936, Briggs-1A. This is the Open Claws reverse that is described as "presently very rare" by Breen in his Complete Encyclopedia. Larry Briggs notes that this variety is scarcer than the Closed Claws reverse. Although we do not have further data on the rarity of this variety, it is certainly an important opportunity for the specialist.
This piece is also an example of the late die state with a horizontal bisecting crack across the eagle, from the T in UNITED to the R in AMERICA. The central obverse and reverse have pale heather toning surrounded by peripheral sea-green toning. The surfaces are lightly marked as expected for the grade.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
