1839 $10 Type of 1838, Large Letters AU55 PCGS. The Type of 1838 is a two year subtype, easily distinguishable from the later Type of 1840 by the rounded front bust truncation above the 1 in the date and the pointed rear truncation above star 13, among many other differences. This variety is avidly collected as part of a gold type set, and collector demand for this date is further increased because the 1838 is a rarer date. Denoted on the slab as a 1839/8, as are all 1839 eagles of this variety graded by PCGS, with traces of the outer circles of the underdigit 8 peeking out from the right side of the prominent 9. This is a shiny, yellow-gold coin, with traces of luster still visible in the recessed portions of the design. The surfaces are a bit on the scuffy side, yet the strike and visible detail appear quite full, creating a pleasing overall effect.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
