1838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-72, Pollock-75, R.5,
<B>1838<P50C> Half Dollar, Judd-72, Pollock-75, R.5, PR67 Cameo NGC.</B></I> The obverse depicts a draped bust of Liberty facing left. Liberty wears a diadem and a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY. The date is below. On the reverse, an eagle with outstretched wings holds four arrows in its right (facing) claw and an olive branch in its left (facing). The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination HALF DOLLAR are around the periphery. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Medallic alignment--a diagnostic feature of virtually all known examples. With no evidence of die rust and a little striking softness in the centers, this coin appears to be one of the first restrikes produced in 1858 or later. This remarkable and Superb Gem Proof is without a doubt the finest example of this pattern variety that we have seen. The surfaces are deeply mirrored around lustrous devices with exceptional rainbow iridescence on both sides. It is sharply struck and extremely attractive.
