1838 $2 1/2 MS65 NGC. Just one die marriage is known for the 1838 Classic Head quarter eagle. Although this issue has a tendency to be grouped with the more obtainable issues in the Classic series such as the 1834 and 1835, few people have been witness to a sufficient number of Mint State pieces to pass judgment on its rarity above AU. Most high grade examples appear to range from AU 58 to MS 62 and, at the Gem level, the 1838 is extremely rare with less than 10 distinct specimens known. This piece shows a strong strike and exceptional luster characteristics beneath rich reddish-gold color. Field marks are generally very light and the only abrasions of note are a pair of small ones above the eagle's right wing that we mention for pedigree purposes, not because of their distracting nature.
Ex: Heritage (1/2000), lot 7609.
From The Freedom Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
