<B>1838 $2 1/2 AU58 NGC.</B></I> The entire mintage of more than 47,000 quarter eagles in 1838 was accomplished from a single die pair, quite a change from the previous year when three die pairs were necessary to coin 45,000 coins. This pleasing example has satiny luster with brilliant light yellow surfaces.
