1838 10C Large Stars MS67 NGC. Variety 106. Crack
1838<10C> Large Stars MS67 NGC. Variety 106. Cracked Obverse #1 exhibits a significant die crack starting at the rim between Stars 6 and 7, then through Liberty's left side and exiting through the shield point into a space between the 1 and 8 digits to the rim. Surprisingly the obverse still comes well struck even with the severity of the die crack. In 1838, Christian Gobrecht added stars to the obverse design of the Seated Liberty Dime. The earliest working dies of this type (1838-1840) were sunk from the No Stars hub of 1837, with the stars being entered individually and by hand. Unsurpassable technical quality for this important issue, both sides are veiled in rich gray-gold and antique-gold shades on the reverse. This is a fully impressed and smooth example. Population: 9 in 67, 1 finer (3/05).
