1837 R.E. Russell, Low-128, HT-309, R.5, New York, NY, MS61 NGC. German silver. An unmarked and satiny chestnut-gray piece with a moderate lamination between 4 o'clock and the C in the denomination. A few faint hairlines cross the fields. The obverse die is the same as the Breen 6-I variant of the Low-120, HT-268 Feuchtwanger cent. According to Robert Lindesmith, Breen 6-I may be a Civil War issue, since the common variety was not listed by Bushnell in 1858 or Cogan in 1859. That implies that Russell's one real token may also have been produced after the Hard Times era. The value of the token stating I O U 12 1/2 C is unique among Hard Times issues.
Ex: Wayte Raymond; John J.
