1837 N-12 R3 PCGS graded MS65RB.
1837 N-12 R3 PCGS graded MS65RB. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Beaded Hair Cord, Head of 1838. "Accessory E" variety. Choice lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with at least 15% of the original mint color remaining, mostly on the reverse. The fields are satiny and the eye appeal is very nice. The notable marks are a tiny planchet flake in the field off the lower lip and a speck of dark toning between the C & E in CENT. LDS. Die wear and lapping have weakened the peripheral details so they are in lower relief and the curl over the 7 in the date is severed. The stray E punched into the wreath under the E in AMERICA, the so-called "Accessory E", is clear. Called MS63 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #21341. Bland says MS63 and tied for CC#3 in his census. Our grade is MS64. PCGS Population 2; none finer. Estimated Value $1,500-UP. Ex Gordon J. Wrubel 1978-C.
