1837 Lewis Cass Autograph Letter Signed as Ambassador to France “Lewis Cass”. One page, 5” x 8”, mounted on a larger 7” x 11” backing sheet with Cass's calling card to the French Court and a hand-written biographical timeline of his life, December 18, 1837, in ink. The letter reads in full: “Sir, I will place your name and that of Mr. Master upon the list of persons for presentation at the French Court.” Lewis Cass (1782-1866) enjoyed a varied career which included service in the military during the War of 1812, minister to France, a term as secretary of war under Andrew Jackson, secretary of state under James Buchanan, senator from Michigan, and a failed candidate for president in 1848. The letter is permanently affixed to the backing sheet and bears the usual fold creases. However the letter is legible and in very good condition. Cass's calling card is tipped on to the backing sheet and is toned and creased on one side.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
