<Our item number 102710>1837. Feuchtwanger Cent. NGC graded MS-64. NY HT-268(61). A choice example with attractive light toning. Dr. Lewis Feuchtwanger in 1837 petitioned Congress to adopt his German-silver-like metal for the U.S. copper Cent. The petition, supported by Senator Thomas Hart Benton was rejected by mint Director Patterson in 1838. Feuchtwanger published a book on gems in 1872 and died in 1876. He struck cents and three-cent pieces out of his alloy, this being the familiar (and well crafted) eagle holding a snake design.
Estimated Value $500-600.

Our item number 102710
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
