1837 50C MS63 NGC. JR-29. This rare variety was not listed in Jules Reiver's Variety Identification Manual. The discovery piece appeared in our January 2006 Signature sale of the Jules Reiver Collection, lot 23402, in which we described the diagnostics as: 83 close, 1 and 7 high. Die crack from star 1 to star 5. Die crack under 837 to star 13. Die lump under A3 on the reverse, close to the wing. Die crack over top of ED STATE. Die crack through the middle of TES, and along the bottoms of OF AMERICA. Pleasing luster emanates from both sides of this attractive MS63 piece. Cobalt-blue, lavender, and golden-brown patination is more extensive and deeper on the obverse periphery than on that of the reverse. A well executed strike left strong definition on the design elements, save for softness on the centrils of the stars on the upper right obverse border, and on the tops of the letters ENTS in CENTS. A few inconsequential ticks define the grade. A small linear mark between the cap and stars 7 and 8 may help to identify the coin.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
