1837 50C MS62 NGC. JR-17. The date is evenly spaced on this variety, and there is a spike up from the top of the cap, which if extended downward, would pass over the left side of the R in LIBERTY. Also, Jules Reiver, in his 1988 Variety Identification Manual, says the fields are "rough," these having been struck from heavily worn dies. Reiver assigns an R.5 rating to this variety.
Glowing luster issues from both sides of this MS62 example, and the design elements are well brought up, save for minor softness in some of the star centers. Whispers of olive-green, gold, and electric-blue concentrate around the margins. A few minor marks, more so on the reverse, limit the grade. This is a more pleasing example than the assigned grade might suggest.

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
