<B>(1837-42) $5 C. Bechtler Five Dollar, 134G, With Star MS61 NGC.</B></I> K-20, R.4. A yellow-gold example with pale lime patina across the open fields. Flashes of luster and an even strike ensure the eye appeal. As expected of the MS61 grade, a few wispy marks are present, some above the 1 in 134. Struck from widely rotated dies, and listed on page 350 of the 2008 <I>Guide Book.</B></I> As a denomination, Bechtler five dollar pieces are significantly scarcer than Bechtler gold dollars. Bullion customers probably preferred payment in gold dollars, since higher denominations would have been cumbersome in commerce.
