(1837-42) $5 C. Bechtler Five Dollar, 134G, With Star AU50 PCGS. K-20, R.4. Produced during the same era as the Christopher Bechtler Quarter Eagle in the present collection, this is an undeniably original survivor. Greenish-yellow color, the surfaces are remarkably free of conspicuous abrasions. Nonetheless, a few scattered distractions are evident, among which is a faint planchet streak (as produced) that bisects the reverse. Light planchet striations are seen from 1 to 7 o'clock on the reverse with some striking weakness from 7-9 o'clock and on the corresponding area on the reverse at CARATS, but overall quite bold. Every feature is boldly, if not sharply defined despite light rub across the highpoints. This is probably the most common Bechtler variety is a perfect type coin for the series.
