<B>(1837-42) $2 1/2 C. Bechtler Quarter Eagle, 70G. 20C. AU55 PCGS.</B></I> K-13, R.6. An important part of the seventh and final series of gold pieces coined by Christopher Bechtler in Rutherford County, North Carolina. In <I>Private Gold Coins and Patterns of the United States</B></I>, Donald Kagin provides some basic information about the seven series of C. Bechtler gold on page 256. Further details are provided by Walter Breen in his <I>Complete Encyclopedia </B></I>who suggests that the seventh series pieces were produced from 1840 to 1842. A lovely green-gold example with deep steel toning.
