(1837-42) $2 1/2 C. Bechtler Quarter Eagle, 64G. 22C. MS61 PCGS. K-11, R.6. Another, and even finer Christopher Bechtler Two-and-a-Half, this coin is the first Mint State representative of this rare variety that we have offered since 1999. The coin that we auctioned that year, an MS60 PCGS example, brought $9,200 as lot 7704 in our 1999 Chicago ANA Signature Sale. The present representative displays beautiful copper-gold color over more deeply set olive-gold undertones. Direct angles reveal scintillating mint luster in the more protected areas around the devices, and the surfaces, while not abrasion-free, are free of outwardly distracting handling marks. A bisecting die crack (as produced) is seen through the center of the obverse with a branching crack from the A in GEORGIA to the G in 64 G. There is a small area of disturbance in the field before the 22. Listed on page 285 of the 2003 Guide Book. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
