1837 $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. McCloskey-B, R.3. The attribution is confirmed by three lines in each shield stripe, and the last A in AMERICA joined to an arrowhead. The 1837 quarter eagle, with a mintage of 45,080 pieces, is usually seen in XF and AU. Mint State examples are rare, and tend to occur in low-end Mint State grades. To date, PCGS and NGC have seen about 60 Uncirculated examples, the vast majority of which grade from MS60 to MS62. Fully struck coins are rare, with most showing weakness on the central highpoints. This MS62 example displays bright yellow-gold surfaces that have retained most of their luster. The design elements are sharply impressed, save for minor weakness in the hair at Liberty's ear. Light handling marks are visible on each side.

Coin Engraver: William Kneass

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
