1837<$2 1/2> AU58 NGC. McCloskey-B, R.3. The most available die pairing for the 1837, being recognized by three lines per vertical stripe on the shield, and the bottom arrowhead touching the right foot of the final A in AMERICA. Among Philadelphia Mint quarter eagles of this design, only the 1839 issue is scarcer, and that date is from a lower mintage. The 1837 quarter eagles were produced to the extent of 45,080, and nearly all entered circulation. The present example reveals bright yellow-gold surfaces and luster in the recessed areas. The design elements are generally well brought up, save for some of the star centers and hair at Liberty's brow. A few minute marks are scattered about, none of which are individually serious. Great overall eye appeal. Population: 41 in 58, 39 finer (7/05).
