1837 1c Feuchtwanger Token NGC MS63
1837 1c Feuchtwanger Token. HT-268(6G). NGC graded MS63. Dr. Lewis Feuchtwanger in 1837 petitioned Congress to adopt his German-silver-like metal for the U.S. copper Cent. The petition, supported by Senator Thomas Hart Benton was rejected by Mint Director Patterson in 1838. Feuchtwanger published a book on gems in 1872 and died in 1876. A lustrous golden gray specimen with a nice display of luster on both sides. Nicely struck, too, perhaps not fully so at the eagle's body, but still well enough that its charm is enhanced immeasurably. "Fewsht-wanger" is believed to be the correct pronunciation on these (PCGS # 20001)
