<B>1837 1C Plain Cords, Small Letters MS66 Brown NGC.</B></I> N-5, R.2. No Newcomb variety for this year is rare, though some, such as the Small Letters reverse, are visually distinctive. This appealing and well-preserved example is medium brown with a hint of faded red on each side. The strike is somewhat uneven, with a deeper impression near 12 o'clock on the obverse (6 o'clock on the reverse) and corresponding weakness opposite that area. A few minor surface irregularities scarcely dampen this coin's visual impact.
