1837 10C No Stars PR65 PCGS. Large Date. A key proof subtype, since the No Stars Liberty Seated design was only struck in proof during 1837. In his 1988 Encyclopedia, Breen states "some 30 brilliant proofs were struck for presentation to Treasury officials and other VIPs" on June 30, 1837. Those proofs can be identified by a die line from a denticle above the left half of the first T in STATES, and also by recutting on the base of the 7 in the date. Mark Borckardt adds that all proofs he has seen have an identical die rotation of 200 degrees, slightly clockwise from coin turn.
This lovely Gem has dusky powder-blue, yellow-green, and plum-mauve toning. The strike is penetrating, even on Liberty's hair and the dentils. Careful rotation under a light fails to locate grade-limiting imperfections. Population: 2 in 65, 1 finer (8/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
