1837<10C> No Stars, Large Date PR63 PCGS. Business strike No Stars, Large Date Dimes are relatively common, at least by Seated Dime standards, even in Mint State. Proofs are a different matter, however. Breen's Encyclopedia reports a mintage of just 30 pieces; Gerry Fortin's website, seateddimevarieties.com, states that proofs are Rarity-7. Since the Philadelphia Mint added stars to the obverse in 1838, the No Stars proof type was only produced in 1837. Faint gold color visits the borders of this lightly marked example. Moderate softness of strike is limited to portions of the horizontal shield lines, and the area near the O in ONE.
