<B>1837 10C No Stars, Large Date MS65 PCGS.</B></I> Greer-101, Shattered Obverse. Late Die State. The year 1837 was the first year of the Seated Liberty dime, which superseded the Capped Bust dime and premiered with a two-year run for the No Stars Obverse subtype. This Gem example shows bold clash marks on each side, and further evidence of die overuse in the form of two prominent obverse die cracks. One proceeds from the rim near 7 o'clock through the shield, rock, and Liberty's thighs, while the second runs from the rim at 4 o'clock behind the sandal and through the lower drapery to intersect the first. The Large Date is distinguished from the Small Date by a flat flag atop the 3 in the date. The present Gem is lustrous and appealing, with hints of gold and copper over the largely untoned surfaces.
