1836 US Mint First Steam Coinage AU53 NGC. Julian-MT-21. Copper. Darker brown with occasional streaks of lighter medium brown. Moderate marks are noted beneath the cap, and minor verdigris is present. This design commemorated the first steam coinage on March 23, 1836, which sealed the fate of the old screw press. Julian states, "The original medals struck in 1836 used the reverse die of February 22 with MAR. 23 punched over FEB. 22." The 2 underdigit is noticeable near the right border of the 3 in 23.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
