Die Alignment IV (medallic alignment with the eagle flying level). One of the "Second Original" pieces from March 1837. The die scratch above the eagle's wing is faint but noticeable with magnification. As stated many times in the past, these coins started in Die Alignment II with the eagle flying upward, then as the reverse die slowly rotated with successive strikings, coins were finally struck in Die Alignment IV with the eagle flying level. This is an original coin with light, even gray patina over each side. Just the slightest friction is seen over the highpoints of the design, and there are no mentionable contact marks on either side.
