1836 Pattern $1. J-58 NCS Impaired PF Graffiti
1836 Pattern Dollar. Silver, plain edge. Original. Judd-58. Pollock-61. NCS graded Impaired Proof. Graffiti. Minor pin etching in the fields but still acceptable since the deep toning tends to obscure this and leaves the bold Gobrecht design of the seated Liberty and flying eagle prominently displayed. This is one of the most famous silver dollars of them all. Along with the 1804 and 1895 issues, the beautiful Gobrecht masterpieces have long been favorites with coin collectors, advanced, novices, or in-between. Only about 1,600 pieces were struck of the 1836 issue, a figure that includes some "restrikes" made in 1837 under the new weight standard introduced that year. This is the "original" described in Judd as #58 in his Pattern series, with normal "coin" alignment of the obverse and reverse (PCGS # 11215)
