1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60 Restrike, Pollock-65, R.5--Cleaned, Retoned--ANACS. AU Details. Plain Edge. Silver. Die Alignment II, with the eagle flying upward after a medallic turn. These coins range from Die Alignments II through IV. The dies accidentally rotated during production with the initial position being Die Alignment II (as with this coin), and Die Alignment IV was the final configuration with the eagle flying level. Of the 600 coins produced with the 1836 date (actually produced in 1837) and with a medallic rotation, two-thirds are believed known in Die Alignment IV (eagle flying level). While this is obviously a retoned piece, we have to admit it is attractive coloration. Nicely reflective, but not deeply so, with obvious hairlining that subdues the mirrors in the fields. A couple of milling marks are located over the left (facing) shoulder of Liberty. Mislabeled on the insert as an original.
