1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60, Pollock-65, R.1, PR50 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment IV. It took us more time than we want to admit to find the die scratch above the eagle's wing, but it is there. It is very faint, but with enough patience and strong magnification one can finally see through the toning and find the scratch--indicative of what surely must be the final state of this March 1837 striking. If the coins in this auction were to be taken as an indicator of relative availability of Die Alignment IV vs. Die Alignment II coins, the D.A. IV coins would be even more "common" than the estimated mintage of 400 vs. 200 pieces. This particular coin is deeply toned over each side and there are numerous small contact marks scattered about, none of which merit individual mention. Light, even rub is seen over the highpoints of each side. Mislabeled on the insert as a Judd-60 Restrike, this piece shows no signs of the die rust present on restrikes.
