1836 PS$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1--Altered Surfaces--PR60 ANACS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment IV. A "Second Original" from the March 1837 production run of 600 coins. On this piece, the die scratch over the eagle's wing is obvious, even to the unaided eye. Undoubtedly, this is in part because the coin is largely free from toning and the fields are bright and deeply reflective, making the die scratch easily discernible.
The ANACS insert merely states "Altered Surfaces." For further explanation of this, examine the reverse of the coin. The fields around the periphery have a slight waviness that is not the way the coin came from the Mint. This appears to be the result of heat, but there is no trace of the same effect on the obverse. Nevertheless, this waviness does not impair the arm's length eye appeal of this lovely piece. As stated above, the surfaces are mostly brilliant, but there is also just the slightest trace of golden patina over each side. Fully struck in all areas. The only marks worthy of mention are a short scratch along the jawline of Liberty, and a couple of tiny planchet flakes in the right obverse field below the cap.
From The Monedas Oro Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
