1836 PS$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65,
1836 PS$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1, PR63 NGC. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment IV (center of Liberty's head opposite right side of F in OF). In the March 1837 series of dollars (dated 1836, of course), the reverse die slowly rotated. Die Alignment II is the initial orientation and Die Alignment IV the final configuration. Of the 600 pieces reportedly struck in 1837, approximately two-thirds are in Die Alignment IV. These pieces are all known as Second Originals. They all have a medallic turn and show a diagnostic die scratch above the eagle's wing.
This piece has deeply toned surfaces. While primarily rich blue-green, examination under a light also reveals portions of rose and gray coloration. The devices are fully struck in all areas, including Liberty's hair and extended foot as well as all the feathers on the eagle's breast. Lightly hairlined but well concealed by the depth of the toning that covers each side.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
