1836 PS$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1, PR25 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I. Original Issue of 1836 with the head of Liberty opposite the O in DOLLAR. What we know for certain about this coin is that it was struck sometime in December 1836. The tell-tale die scratch that is seen on late-December coins is usually not visible on pieces below the AU level, and is often difficult to discern even in that grade. However, we might speculate that this was a late-December striking as many of these pieces are found circulated, rather than the early December (no die scratch) dollars that were often preserved in high grades as presentation pieces. But this is only speculation. The surfaces on this coin are quite pleasing. Each side has light gray patina that deepens slightly around the margins. There are no obvious or detracting blemishes, and most importantly there is no evidence of the tooling often seen on lower-grade Gobrechts. There is a lot to like about this evenly worn Gobrecht dollar.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
