1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1--Scratched, Cleaned--ANACS. XF40 Details. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I (with the eagle flying upward when the coin is rotated along a horizontal axis). This First Original was struck in early December of 1836, as can be seen by the lack of the die scratch above the eagle's wing. There is a shallow, rim-to-rim scratch on the upper obverse with a second scratch that forms an X. Additionally, there are a couple of scratches across the eagle's neck and forepart of the wing. The surfaces also show a number of small planchet flakes on each side. Hairlined, as indicated above, the effects of which are largely unnoticeable by the overlay of medium gray patina and contrasting brilliantish-gray accents over the highpoints. While a great deal of copy has been expended listing this piece's flaws, it is actually much finer in appearance than one might imagine.
From The Catfish Creek Collection, Part Two.
