1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1, PR58 PCGS. Die Alignment IV. Plain Edge. Silver. Medallic alignment with the eagle flying level. This is one of the Die Alignment IV coins from March 1837 with the die scratch above the eagle's wing. Misattributed on the PCGS insert as a Judd-60 Restrike. Generally these pieces were struck on lighter weight planchets than the Die Alignment II pieces. This, of course, is because the Die Alignment II coins were struck earlier in the production run and on leftover (heavier) planchets. This is an especially pleasing coin that shows just the slightest evidence of handling. The fields are bright and reflective with medium density, smoky gray-golden toning with a slight undertone of rose. There are several tiny specks of darker green color scattered mostly in the right obverse field. Fully struck with complete definition on Liberty's head and foot.
From The Chief Paduke Collection.
