1836 PS$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.2-3, PR55 NGC. Die Alignment I. Original. Plain edge. (1,000 minted). The head of Liberty is opposite the DO in DOLLAR, with the eagle flying "onwards and upwards" after a normal coin turn--Walter Breen's definition of Die Alignment I. Much lighter in color overall than most Gobrecht Dollars, the coin displays evidence of slight friction in the fields and over the highpoints and there are traces of light golden color--making this a very desirable "type" coin for the advanced collector. This piece is identifiable by the five or six darker spots of color that are scattered over the figure of Liberty and down into the exergual area and onto the lower obverse rim. This piece was sold 24 years ago as a part of the Madison Estate, which contained 12 1836, 1838, and 1839 Gobrecht Dollars.Ex: Madison Estate, (Superior, 1/79), lot 886.
