1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1--Plugged, Tooled, Whizzed--ANACS. Fine Details, Net PR4. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I, original issue of 1836. The present variety has C. GOBRECHT F. inscribed on the base of the rock and is identified as a Judd-60, and appears in Judd's classic book on patterns (even though this particular coin is not a pattern). The head of Liberty is nearly opposite the D in DOLLAR, and according to Walter Breen's definition of die alignments for Gobrecht dollars, this means that this coin is in Alignment I. Therefore, this coin represents one of the 1,000 Gobrecht dollars that were struck in December 1836. The exact day of the month that these coins were made is unknown; however, it is known that at least two different strikings were produced (probably on different days). Nevertheless, all 1,000 coins were officially listed in the Director's Report for December 31, 1836. The Gobrecht dollars made in 1836 were struck on heavy weight (416.5 grain) planchets, the standard in effect since 1794. To complicate things, the standard weight of dollars was changed in January 1837 to 412.5 grains. The present coin shows the cumulative effects of general circulation wear; however, this particular coin shows evidence of some tooling (or surface work) in the right obverse field and around the second pellet on the reverse. Liberty's shield is heavily worn and only one letter is clearly observable. Several marks also appear throughout the obverse and reverse fields. The present coin represents an affordable example of this rare and popular design.
From The Paulsboro Collection.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
