1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1--Repaired--ANACS. AU55 Details. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I. Original Issue of 1836 with the eagle flying upward. Strong magnification shows an apparent faint die scratch above the eagle's wing, pointing toward the AT of STATES. This is the latest and faintest evidence of the die scratch that we have seen. The die scratch places this coin among the 600 pieces produced in late December of that year. The only obvious area of repair that we see is above the foot of Liberty. However, the obverse field is curiously smooth for a briefly circulated silver dollar. The surfaces show deep blue-gray toning on the obverse while the center of the reverse is a medium golden-brown. Light friction is also evident over the highpoints.
