1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1 Impaired Proof, Plugged, NCS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I. Original Issue of 1836 with the eagle flying upward. While ungraded on the insert, the coin has a technical grade of XF45. The net grade will, of course, be considerably lower because of the large plug by Liberty's head and over the DO of DOLLAR. In the attempt to repair this plug, the coin was subjected to heat and it caused waviness in the metal surrounding the plug. This First Original is one of the first 400 strikings from early December and as a result does not show the die scratch above the eagle's wing. Medium gray patina covers each side and a small planchet void is seen in front of Liberty's eye.
