1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1, PR50 NGC. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I. Original Issue of 1836 with the eagle flying upward. Produced during the second striking period in late December and showing the faint die scratch above the eagle's wing. The entire mintage of 600 of these coins were distributed to the public via a local Philadelphia bank, and as a result are often found in less-than-pristine condition. This is an attractive example that has light, even gray toning over both sides. Sharply defined, there is just the slightest bit of friction over the highpoints of the design elements. The only surface irregularity is a circular area of discoloration on Liberty's chest. A very pleasing example of this popular type coin and generally not located in such a superior state of preservation.
