1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Coin Alignment, Pollock-65, R.1, PR61 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I. Original Issue of 1836 with the eagle flying upward. This piece shows no die scratch above the eagle's wing, indicating it was one of the 400 First Originals struck in December 1836. Many of these First Originals were saved and used as presentation pieces, thus a high percentage survive today in PR60 or finer condition. The Second Originals, struck in early 1837, are generally much lower in grade, as most directly entered the channels of commerce. This is a surprisingly attractive example that displays deeply reflective proof fields and pale golden color that deepens around the obverse margin. Lightly hairlined, there are a number of small contact marks in the fields that account for the grade.
